Nigel Brims has over 35 years’ legal experience, having qualified as a solicitor in 1980. Since joining Norwich City Council in 1989 and subsequently with nplaw, he has specialised in advising local authorities on all aspects of social housing including:

  • advice to housing officers, collaborative working and running training sessions on all elements of tenancy management and legal processes;
  • reviewing and revising tenancy conditions;
  • taking numerous anti-social behaviour cases to court, employing a range of remedies (possession, suspended or otherwise, demotion and anti-social behaviour injunctions);
  • trespass and squatter claims;
  • dealing with special defences advanced by tenant advisers (raising Article 8 concerns about proportionality, Equality Act considerations etc.);
  • identifying best approaches for legal enforcement against reclusive tenants, who, for example, fail to give access, hoard personal belongings, or otherwise compromise the fabric of landlord properties;
  • defending disrepair claims;
  • homelessness and allocations advice.
