nplaw acts for Norfolk County Council on the rapid removal of travellers from an unauthorised site

8 August 2016 | Category ,

nplaw’s Luke Parker recently acted for Norfolk County Council on the eviction of travellers from the Barnard Bridge playing field owned by Great Yarmouth High School. The travellers arrived on Sunday 3rd July.  Luke was instructed the following day.

A direction to leave land was served on the travellers under section 77 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 on Tuesday 5th July, and an order for their removal was made pursuant to section 78 of that Act on Thursday 7th July. The order gave the travellers until late on the afternoon of Friday 8th to vacate, which they did, although they left the field in very poor state to the dismay of Great Yarmouth High School, the local football club and local residents.

Details of the procedure Luke used which allowed such a fast eviction are set out on our website at https://www.nplaw.co.uk/briefings/removal-travellers-from-unauthorised-sites/

This was a high profile case with the police, the local MP, the local press, local residents and the school all actively involved, and it was extensively reported by the Great Yarmouth Mercury
